Kosovo receives recognition

As you may know, Kosovo is a disputed territory and partially recognised state, that declared a de facto independence from Serbia in February 2008.

In the last 3 and a half years, Kosovo didn't express any interest to take part in Veritons Song Contest. That situation changed last edition, when the former juror of Belgium, South Africa, France and Italy decided to present the albanian music to the world, under the flag of Kosovo.

Since VSC doesn't have any official guideline for matters of policies regarding international law and recognition, the custom of following the political views of the Romanian state was used as the default measure. But even the Romanian view over Kosovo has changed since 2008.

After a discussion held last night between the Administrators and the Moderators of the contest, everyone agreed that things have to be different from now on. The first measure will apply to Kosovo and, who knows, to the new-founded countries in the future.

Therefore, the following matters will apply from now on:

1. We hereby declare Kosovo to be an independent and sovereign state, full and eligible member to participate in Veritons Song Contest.
2. With the approval of the current Serbian juror, the effects of this decision will apply retroactively, so the victory of Era Istrefi under the Serbian flag in VSC86 will become a Kosovar victory, registered as the first victory of Kosovo and not Serbia.
3. As of 23 June 2015, the Republic of Kosovo has received 112 diplomatic recognitions as an independent state. Notably, 108 out of 193 (56%) United Nations (UN) member states, 23 out of 28 (82%) European Union (EU) member states, 24 out of 28 (86%) NATO member states, and 34 out of 57 (60%) Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states have recognised Kosovo. We consider that the number of diplomatic recognitions is substantial enough to consider Kosovo a full participant.
4. This decision will not reflect on the other states with limited recognition such as: Abkhazia, Northern Cyprus, Palestine, Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (Western Sahara), South Ossetia, Nagorno-Karabakh, Somaliland or Transnistria.
