What an exciting evening at the Nash Dom Theatre! Thirty-seven acts were performed onstage, hoping to be crowned the winner of the 89th edition and bring the contest to their home nation for the 90th edition!
The results were really close up until the last voter, the United States, who awarded twelve points to Croatia, the winner country, thus ending Albania's chances for the victory. Croatia ended with 158 points and with a 13 point lead, Albania receiving 145 points.
Graduate student of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, model and musician, at his 22 years Vlaho has all prerequisites to become an international superstar. His song "Home" was an unexpected winner-song according to the odds and predictions. Vlaho is certainly coming home now, with a trophy and an edition to host!
Second place was occupied by Albania and Eleni Foureira, former winner of Veritons Song Contest, and a big favourite for the win in this edition. Eleni collected 145 poins. This is, to this day, the best result scored by Albania.
The top 3 concludes with Japan, another suprise that has been made possible by the voters. The song "Flash" received 113 points, 2 more than France, who ended on the fourth place. Japan was represented by the band Perfume, a pop girl group from Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan, consisting of Ayano Ōmoto ("Nocchi"), Yuka Kashino ("Kashiyuka"), and Ayaka Nishiwaki ("A~chan").
With his victory in the 89th Veritons Song Contest, Vlaho made people of Croatia happy and proud. After his arrival at Zagreb Franjo Tuđman Airport, the singer found himself in front of the crowd of fans and journalists, all eager to congratulate the singer on his achievement. Many welcomed Vlaho home by singing the Croatian national anthem.
Croatian officials are already starting to prepare the stage for next edition, which will be held in Dubrovnik, one of the most prominent tourist destinations in the Mediterranean Sea.
See you there and don't forget your sun cream!
